There are many acne medications that are taken orally or that are applied topically to the skin. These types of medications can be expensive and ineffective or can come with multiple side effects. Therefore, many individuals that are suffering from acne choose to seek alternative treatments for their acne on their face and body.

Here are some of the most popular acne treatments:

Tea tree oil has very effective anti bacterial properties and is used in the treatment of acne for many people. It is important to dilute the tea tree oil with a little water before applying directly to the pimple. Removing the bacteria from the pimple can be an effective way to clear the breakout.

Zinc is the second herb, that can also be applied topically to the skin or taken orally through the use of daily supplements that can reduce the breakouts that the patient experiences. There are many foods that contain high levels of zinc and it has been thought that adding these foods to the diet can help to reduce the instances of breakouts which are associated with acne.

Turmeric, combined with coconut oil to create a paste can be applied to the skin as a paste to reduce the acne that appears on the skin.

These natural treatments come with very few side effects and can be effective in the treatment of many types of acne.

Ok, yoga mats or an aerobic mat are not really my ideal floor coverings. I prefer a large blanket… and a bucket of popcorn and a good movie. But when I moved into my new apartment and my next door neighbour mentioned in passing that her New Year’s resolution was to lose weight, I decided to go along with her to the local gym. Together we walked on walkers, rowed on rowers and cycled on cycles. We sweat together and drank litres of water together – and lost weight together. In fact, together with someone else is the best way to lose weight. We invested in our own yoga mats to use at home, and used the aerobic mats at the gym when we worked out there. And when the time came to do a Swiss ball class, we bought one each – try sharing Swiss balls UK. They might be large, but not large enough for two people! We invested in new sneakers and training outfits. And swanky water bottles, gym bags and sweat bands (we loved Olivia Newton-John’s Physical clip!). Not to mention hand weights, goggles for the pool and, of course, new swimmers.

By the end of the year, we had gotten to our respective ‘goal’ weights, found husbands in the process (at the sports store) and had forged a friendship that survives to this day.

Has anyone heard of the awesome new toy from Nintendo called Wii Fit? I just couldn’t resist going out to buy one the other day, and surprisingly - it’s better and more effective than you may think. Of course critics voices can certainly be found post any almost any public announcement or product release. Who am I fooling, I’m usually one of them when it comes to fitness products. But for some reason, I have taken a fond liking to the Wii Fit. Let me explain why.

Firstly, it actually does require a bit of physical work. As far as electronic video games go - this is far better than just sitting on the couch with a controller. Assuming you get up and actually do your fitness exercises - the results will no doubt follow the amount of effort you put in. Speaking of effort - you may have thought that a little robot in your screen coupled with a “balance board” is not particularly stimulating nor encouraging. Well think again - because the program has many of it’s own new features to prompt you up for you daily fitness and body test.
